Belles Open Conference Action

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University Belles Volleyball team take again to the road as they begin conference play and head for Canyon, Texas and Portales, New Mexico to take on West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.

Series Meetup:
West Texas A&M leads the all-time series 58-21 over Angelo State. Since 2006, the Belles are 2-8 on the road at Canyon in the series but are 5-5 at home. In conference play, the Belles are 8-12 since 2009. The last time these two teams battled, they played in San Angelo and ASU won the set 3-2. A kill from Baleigh Allen with an assist from Meghan Parker ended the match in the Belles fifth set victory, 15-9.
 
After Canyon, the Belles head west to Portales, New Mexico to take on Eastern New Mexico. ASU currently leads the series 48-20. Since 2006 The Belles are currently 11-0 at home and are 8-3 at Portales. In the last 10 matchups beginning on November 13, 2014, the Belles are 8-2 against the Greyhounds. The Blue and Gold held control of the three set match from the beginning of play, with Sophia Berg leading the offense with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .588.
 
Players to Watch:
Kailyn Gilbreath led the ASU offense in the Mountain Lion Invitational with 47 kills over the weekend. Her hitting percentage throughout the tournament was a .431 and 2.07 kills a set. Gilbreath was named to the All-Tournament Team as well as the Most Valuable Player for the Mountain Lion Invitational.
 
Lindsey Ledyard assisted the Belles throughout the tournament with a total of 81 assists and scoring four service aces on offense. She also was an asset on defense with 25 digs over the weekend for the Blue and Gold. Ledyard was named to the Mountain Lion Invitational All-Tournament Team.
 
Up Next:
The Belles return home to the Stephens Arena for three matches against Lubbock Christian, University of Texas-Permian Basin, and Western New Mexico next week. ASU will play Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, UTPB at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 27, and Western New Mexico at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 28.
