SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University men's basketball team rallied back in the second half to defeat St. Mary's University on Saturday afternoon, 80-73.
Camron Reedus finished with 16 points while teammate
Burone Edwards grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds.
The Rams improve to 12-4 overall and 8-4 in conference action.
In Case You Missed It:
- Both teams started off slow until the 18:51 mark when the Rattlers dropped in three from the line to take an early 3-0 lead.
- Reedus knocked down a bucket from beyond the arc to put the Rams on the board at the 16:43 mark to trail, 4-3.
- SMU managed to work up a double digit lead and hold on to it for over three minutes until Ronald Bell brought the score within nine points, 21-12, off a layup at the 8:56 mark.
- The Rattlers pulled away again to lead 27-16 at the 6:23 mark but Jeremy Hayes started a four-point run followed by two free throws by Bell to bring the Rams to 27-20.
- From there, ASU continued to chip away at the SMU lead to trail by four at the half, 35-31.
- At the start of the second half, both teams went back and forth with the baskets as Collin Turner tied the game at the 15:23 mark, 39-39.
- Two free throws by Bell gave the Blue and Gold their first lead of the game, 41-39.
- After going back down, 46-43, Turner tied the game one last time on a three and Reedus gave the lead back to ASU on a free throw, 47-46.
- The Rams claimed their biggest leads at 6:31 and 5:39 to lead the Rattlers, 64-52 and 64-54, respectively.
- With less than two minutes remaining in the game, SMU managed to come within three points to trail 71-68 but the Rams held on strong to claim an 80-73 victory.
Notable Players:
- Jeremy Hayes (11), Bell (11), and Turner (11) all scored in double figures to contribute to the Ram offense.
- Defensively, Reedus and Pettway were right behind Edwards, grabbing eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
- The Blue and Gold edged out the Rattlers on rebounds, 43-41.
