LUBBOCK, Texas – After day one at the Collegiate Classic at Texas Tech,
Trpimir Siroki sits in first place in the men's heptathlon with 3,188 points.
Siroki finished sixth in the 60-meter dash but claimed the first place spot in long jump with a distance of 7.55m to bump him up to third. Siroki surpassed DI powers, Penn and Tennessee, to jump into the lead, despite placing second in shot put and high jump.
"Trpimir had a great first day. He had three indoor personal bests and competed very well. This is a high quality meet, with great competition, and he handled it very well. We hope he can finish with a solid second day and punch his ticket to the NCAA meet. His long jump is sitting third in the nation, so that was a plus as well," said head coach Thomas Dibbern.
Siroki will finish the final three events of the heptathlon, the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and the 1000-meter run tomorrow, January 31, beginning at Noon.
