SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team defeated the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas on their home court, 58-39.
The Belles move to a 15-8 overall record, and an 8-3 conference record.
In Case You Missed It:
Frist Quarter:
- A layup from De'Anira Moore off of a turnover started the game for the Belles, 2-0.
- Kingsville would take the lead from ASU with a made three pointer, but a second chance layup from Catara Samuel gave the Belles back the lead, 4-3.
- Two made free throws from Samuel and Davis extended ASUs' lead to three points, 6-3.
- A layup from Davis and a free throw from Samuel extended the Belles lead even further to six, 9-3 to end the first quarter.
Second Quarter
- A three pointer from Megan Guadian started the second quarter off for the Belles, as their lead would grow to seven, 12-5.
- The Javelinas cut ASUs' lead back down to four points, but another layup from Davis brought the Belles lead back to six, 14-8.
- Sawyer Lloyd would score a layup underneath the basket to extend the Blue and Golds lead to eight points, 16-8.
- Kinley Brown would be fouled on an opponent turnover and knock down tow free throws down to bring ASU to a 10-point lead over Texas A&M-Kingsville, 18-8.
- Samantha Rocha and Moore would score two layups to bring ASU to a 14 point lead over Kingsville, 22-8.
- With two layups from Samuel and Lloyd, ASU would keep the Javelinas from scoring for almost the entire second quarter, with Kingsville only scoring seven points in the second quarter with 48 seconds left in first half.
Third Quarter
- A three pointer from Lana Marov, a jumper from Samuel, and a layup from Moore brought the Belles to a 20 point lead over the Javelinas, 34-14.
- Kingsville would make a free throw to cut the Belles lead down to 19, but a three pointer from Davis would bring ASUs' lead back to 22, 37-15.
- A layup from Rocha brought the Belles to a 24 point lead over the Javelinas, 41-17.
- Davis would make a layup to bring the Belles to a 26 point lead over Texas A&M Kingsville, 43-17.
- A jumper from Lloyd scored the first points in over two minutes for the Belles, extending their lead to 26, 45-19.
- The Javelinas would cut the Bellles lead to 22, but a second chance jumper made by Davis brought ASU to a 24 point lead, 47-23.
Fourth Quarter
- Two free throws from Samuel extended their lead back to 22 points, scoring the first points for the Belles in the fourth quarter, 49-27.
- A layup from Rocha and a three pointer from Lloyd brought the Belles to a 27 point lead over Kingsville, 54-27.
- The Javelinas would cut the Belles down to 23 points, but a second chance layup from Brown brought ASUs' lead back to 25, 56-31.
- Kingsville would cut down the Belles lead to 19 points, but two made free throws from Perrine Manoury brought the Blue and Golds lead back to 21, 58-37. ASUs' quick scoring capabilities and defensive might kept the Javelinas to one of their lowest scoring games of the season, 58-39.
Key Players:
- Asia Davis continues to be one of the Belles main offensive scorers, scoring 12 points for Angelo State, shooting 5-6 from the field, 1-2 from the three point line, and 1-2 from the free throw line. Davis grabbed three defensive rebounds and two assists for ASU as well.
- Catara Samuel continues to make big impacts on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, scoring 10 points for the Belles, shooting 3-9 from the field, 0-2 from the three point line, and 4-6 from the free throw line. Samuel grabbed five total rebounds, one on offense and four on defense, as well as four assists and three steals.
- Sawyer Lloyd continues to show her skills for the Belles, scoring 10 points for Angelo State and shooting 4-9 from the field, 1-5 from the three point line, and 1-2 from the free throw line. Lloyd grabbed three defensive rebounds, one block, and one steal.
