SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team travels to Florida to participate in the Florida Tech Invitational, hosted by Flordia Tech University, after returning from the Arkansas Tech Invitational tournament hosted in Conroe, Texas. The tournament starts on Friday, February 7 and ends on Sunday, February 9.

Series Matchup:
This will be the first time in school history that Angelo State and Alabama-Huntsville have played each other. The Chargers were 39-17 last season, making it to the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament and losing to the No. 7 seed, Mississippi College. The Chargers return one of their main hitters in Kiara Akles, who finished with a hitting percentage of .615 over the 2019 season, registering 47 total hits, 28 of which were runs, along with nine home runs and 45 RBI. The Chargers also return one of their main pitchers in Sydnee Uhlman, who threw a 2.82 ERA over the 2019 season. Uhlman threw 56 strikeouts and 34 errors.
This will be the first time in school history that Angelo State and Molloy College have played each other. The Lions finished 17-34 over the 2019 season. The Lions return one of their big sticks in Courtney Greene, who averaged a .311 hitting percentage last season, hitting 51 times with 21 runs, two home runs, and 21 RBI. Greene also returns as one of the Lions main pitchers, throwing a 2.78 ERA, and registering 71 strikeouts and 53 errors.
This will be the first time that Angelo State and St. Leo University will play each other in school history. The Lions finished the 2019 season with a 31-18 overall record, making it as far as the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament, losing to the #25 Mississippi College Choctaws. The Lions return one of their big sticks, Kacie Kelly, who had 57 hits over the 2019 season with 36 runs and 15 RBI. The Lions also return one of their main pitchers in Sara Neuman, who threw for a 1.45 ERA, throwing 50 strikeouts and 13 errors.
The last time that Angelo State and Florida Tech played each other was on February 3, 2019, where the Rambelles defeated the Florida Tech Panthers, 4-3. Since 2017, Angelo State and Florida Tech have played each other six times, with ASU leading the all-time series, 5-1. A homerun from
Avery Zeigler into left field, scoring 2 RBI to bring the Rambelles to a 4-3 lead over the Panthers. With
Meagan Hill in the circle for ASU, along with a superb Rambelles defense to back her up, Angelo State was able to get three outs against Florida Tech with no runs scored to secure the Rambelles the win.
This will be the first time in school history that Angelo State and the University of New Haven will play each other. The Chargers finished the 2019 season with a record of 33-16, advancing to the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship, losing to the Long Island University Post Pioneers, 3-6. The Chargers return one of their main hitting powers in Mya Case, who had a hitting average of .346, hitting 53 times with 29 runs, one home run, and 35 RBI. The Chargers also return one of their main pitchers, Ava Fitzmaurice, who threw a 2.48 ERA, throwing 64 strikeouts and 56 errors.
Players to Watch:
Maleya Burns had a phenomenal weekend in the Arkansas Tech Invitational, hitting a .308 hitting percentage over the weekend. Burns hit two home runs, earing six RBI for the Rambelles. Burns had five runs scored on four hits, along with a double with 13 total at bats. From a fielding standpoint, Burns had two catches and two put outs.
Courtney Barnhill had a batting average of .438 over the weekend, having 16 at bats. Barnhill had seven hits, with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. From a fielding standpoint, Barnhill had seven catches and seven put outs.
True freshman
Genesis Armendariz threw for a 4.22 ERA over the weekend, throwing seven strikeouts during the Arkansas Tech Invite, but also had four catches, one put out, and three assists. Armendariz also had one at bat, where she was walked.

The Rambelles return home to play their first home games of the season as they co-host the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge with Tarleton State University. The George and Ola McCorkle Challenge will take place from Friday, February 14 to Sunday, February 16.
