SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University men's basketball team battled hard in a tough game against Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night, edging out the Greyhounds with an 80-77 victory.
Andres Ibarguen came up big for the Rams, scoring 16 points to lead all scorers.
The Rams improve to 15-4 overall and 11-4 in conference action.
In Case You Missed It:
- Both teams kept it close throughout the first half with neither team really grabbing a lead over the other.
- The Greyhounds managed to grab their biggest lead by five points at the 17 minute mark.
- At the 12:54 mark, the Rams trailed by one but claimed the lead off a dunk by Ronald Bell to lead, 15-14.
- The Rams went on a 9-1 scoring run beginning at 2:55 to lead 41-31. The Greyhounds ended the run at 00:37 to trail 41-33.
- At the end of the first half, the lead changed three times and tied twice. The Rams were outshooting the Greyhounds 53.3 percent to 48.1 percent from the floor.
- The second half continued much like the first half with both teams battling to get ahead of the other.
- The Rams grabbed an eight-point lead at the 17:39 mark but the Greyhounds hit two back-to-back three pointers to bring the score within two at 47-45 with 15:30 remaining in the game.
- By the 12 minute mark, the Rams and Greyhounds were tied once more with ENMU grabbing another lead by one at 58-57.
- At the 3:33 mark, the Blue and Gold trailed by five points and chipped away to be within one-point within a minute's time, trailing 73-71.
- At the 2:10 mark, Collin Turner went up the court on a fast break to put the lead back in favor of the Rams, 74-73.
- From there, the score tied two times with ASU coming out with lead both times to hold on and claim the 80-77 victory.
Notable Players:
- Bell (14), Camron Reedus (15) and Paul Williams (13) all scored in double figures, helping out on the Rams offense.
- Ibarguen shot 5-of-6 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
- Defensively, Ibarguen and Marcel Pettway shared the load with each grabbing seven rebounds apiece.
- The Rams and Greyhounds tied the game seven times and forced 11 lead changes.
- Overall, ASU went 30-of-61 (49.2%) from the floor and 15-of-24 (62.5%) from the free throw line.
