Softball Hosts the Rattlers and Hilltoppers in Five Game Series

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team has their first home conference series against the St. Mary's Rattlers and the St. Edward's Hilltoppers.
The Rambelles are 14-6 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Series Matchup:
Since 2007, Angelo State and St. Mary's have played each other 45 times with ASU leading the all-time series, 33-14. The last time these two teams played each other was on March 12, 2019, where the Rambelles defeated the Rattlers, 5-2. Avery Zeigler hit a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 5th inning, scoring Courtney Barnhill for the final run over the Rattlers. Barnhill and Hatty Shope both hit a home run against St. Mary's.
 
Since 2013, Angelo State and St. Edwards have played each other 25 times with ASU leading the all-time series, 20-5. The last time the Rambelles and Hilltoppers played each other was on April 30, 2019, where Angelo State defeated St. Edwards, 7-6. Zeigler would hit a single into left field, advancing Maleya Burns to second and Mykayla Stroud to third, and scoring Taegan Kirk for the final run in the bottom of the 7th.

Courtney Barnhill continues to make history for Angelo State as a Rambelle. Barnhill hit two home runs against the Cameron Aggies, tying Kenedy Urbanys record of 46 home runs and tying the all-time record in Angelo State history. Barnhill has had 61 at-bats with 15 runs and 21 hits. Barnhills hit doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI. Barnhill currently has a slugging percentage of .639 and has stolen 16 bases with 18 attempts. From a fielding standpoint, Barnhill has 29 chances with 27 put outs with a .931 fielding percentage.
 
Avery Zeigler had a big weekend against the Cameron Aggies and the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, hitting three homeruns over the weekend. Zeigler had had 38 at-bats with eight runs and 12 hits. Zeigler currently has a .605 slugging percentage with two doubles, three homeruns, and nine RBI. From a fielding standpoint, Zeigler has had 20 chances with 17 putouts for a .900 fielding percentage.
 
Hatty Shope had a good weekend in the batters' box for Angelo State against Oklahoma Christian and Cameron University, going to bat 13 times for the Rambelles. Shope had four hits, two runs, two RBI, one home run, and one stolen base. Shope currently has a .500 slugging percentage with five stolen bases with seven attempts. From a fielding standpoint, Shope has had 43 chances with 17 putouts for a .884 fielding percentage.
 
Up Next:
The Rambelles hit the road as they travel to Kingsville and Laredo, Texas as they take on the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas and the Texas A&M International Dustdevils. Angelo State will face Kingsville in a doubleheader on Friday, March 13, a non-conference game against the Javelinas on Saturday, March 14, and a doubleheader against the Dustdevils on Sunday, March 15. Game times are 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday, and noon and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
