SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team will continue to play on the road this week as the Rams travel south to San Antonio for a two-game series against St. Mary's.
Game one against the Rattlers is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. Fans will
NOT be allowed in attendance for both games.
LAST WEEK:
ASU played two close games against 22
nd-ranked Lubbock Christian last week, falling 87-69 at home before narrowly making a comeback on the road as the Chaparrals hung on to a 69-66 win in Lubbock.
Sam Baker led the Rams with 17 points in game one while
Burone Edwards put together his first double-double of the season in game two, collecting 10 rebounds to go along with 17 points of his own.

ALL-TIME SERIES: StMU leads 23-15, Last Meeting: ASU, 80-73
Despite being down in the all-time series, the Rams have had great success against the Rattlers in recent history, winning 10 of the last 14 matchups, including winning the last five consecutive meetings. ASU has won two straight games in San Antonio with the last loss coming during the 2012-13 season, falling 84-76 on the road.
SCOUTING ST. MARY'S:
The Rattlers have struggled on offense to begin their season. Averaging 65.2 points per game, StMU ranks second to last in the conference in points per game and also last in field goal percentage at .396. Caleb Jordan leads the Rattlers with an average of 11.7 points per game while Tyler Caron is averaging 11.6.
Defense has been the strong point for St. Mary's as the Ratters are holding opponents to the fourth-lowest total per game at 72.2 points per game, and the lowest field goal percentage at .408. They are the top in the league in blocks with 19 and they rank third in steals with 42 through five games. The Rattlers are also one of the better rebounding teams in the Lone Star, averaging 39.6 rebounds per game which is the second most among conference schools.
St. Mary's has two players in the top three in blocks so far this season. Mamady Djikine leads the league with an average of 1.8 blockers per game, followed by Caron with 1.2. Timmy Benavides ranks ninth in the conference in steals per game, averaging 2.0 through five games.

The Rams have started their season with one of the stronger schedules in the conference, facing DBU, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Lubbock Christian, which all three are currently leading their respective divisions. Despite the strength of the schedule, Angelo State has continued to show promise, ranking fifth in the Lone Star in field goal percentage at .470, third in free throws made with 143, and seventh overall in rebounding average with 36 boards a game.
Paul Williams leads the Rams in scoring with an average of 12.8 points per game. He is also averaging just under three rebounds per game and has tallied 24 assists. Behind him, Baker is averaging 12.6 points per game while
Lavaris Duncan leads the team in rebounding average at 5.1 per game.
