LAREDO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team picked up its second straight win on Friday as the Rams stormed past Texas A&M International, winning 92-60 at the TAMIU Convocation Center.
With the win, the Rams move to 7-9 on the season and 7-9 in Lone Star Conference play while the Dustdevils fall to 1-13, 1-12 LSC.
The Rams jumped out ahead early, taking an 18-11 lead before extending the lead to double-digits with just under six minutes to play in the opening half.
Devaughn Thomas led the Rams offensively, collecting 20 points in the game while added nine rebounds and two assists. Behind him, three players collected 11 points in
Kevon Godwin,
Paul Williams, and
Sam Moore.
The Rams finished 58.9 percent shooting from the field while notching a 60 percent mark from three-point range, shooting 12-of-20 in the game. Thomas finished 4-of-5 form deep while Moore went 3-of-5.
With 2:41to play in the first half, ASU held the Dustdevils scoreless for the remainder of the period while going on a 7-0 run to take a 39-18 point lead into the halftime break.
Angelo State's defense held TAMIU to 31 percent shooting on the night and forced nine turnovers while outrebounding the Dustdevils 47-26.
The Rams continued to dominate in the second half, extending their lead to as much as 37 points.
Kendrick Washington and
BJ Anderson both added seven points while
Burone Edwards finished with six points and
Trevor Berry scored five points.
The Rams will play game two against the Dustdevils tomorrow in the final regular season contest of the year, tipping off at 3:30 p.m.
