Rams Fall Just Short Against UT Tyler In Game Two of the Series

TYLER, Texas – Evening the series, the 10th-ranked UT Tyler Patriots held off the Angelo State baseball team in a pitcher's duel on Saturday night, hitting a walk-off single to win 2-1 at Irwin Field.

The Rams move to 1-1 on the season along with the Patriots after each team collected a win in the first two games of the three game series.

Just like the start of game one, UT Tyler picked up a run in the first inning as Riley Jepson hit a solo homerun to center field, taking a 1-0 lead.

Both pitchers locked in after that, tossing four scoreless innings through the end of the fifth inning.

Benjamin Elder pitched 6.1 innings for the Rams, allowing one run off of six hits while collecting four strikeouts. Pitching in relief was Matt Szabo who threw 2.1 innings with three hits and five strikeouts.

In the top of the sixth inning, Riley Peterson singled down the right field line to get on base before advancing to third on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch. With two outs, Jackson Hardy bunted to bring in Peterson for the tying run.

The Rams did well to get runners on base, finishing with nine hits in the contest but couldn't bring them around to score, leaving 14 on the bases.

Parker Bramlett and Josh Elvir each had two hits for Angelo State while five other players recorded at least one hit in the game.

In the top of the ninth, Elvir led off with a single before a double play helped the Patriots out of the inning. In the Bottom half of the inning, UTT hit back-to-back singles before a two-out hit brought in the winning run.

The Rams and Patriots close out the series on Sunday afternoon, playing game three at Irwin Field with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
