#1 Rams Take First Series, Defeat UTT 15-1 in Game Three

TYLER, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team got the offense going in game three against No. 10 UT Tyler, winning the series with a 15-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Irwin Field.
 
The Rams (2-1, 2-1 Lone Star) took over in the third inning, scoring six runs. UTT loaded the bases and allowed the first run after hitting four straight batters. After that, Jordan Williams brought in the second with an RBI single to left center before Aaron Walters and Parker Bramlett forced back-to-back walks to score two more. After batting through the lineup, Thomas Cain brought in the final two runs of the third with a single through the right side, scoring Walters and Williams.
 
UT Tyler got one run back in the bottom of the inning, getting on base with a walk before a wild pitch and a single brought in the Patriots' only run of the game.
 
ASU added two more runs in the fourth inning as Josh Elvir singled before Nick Seginowich homered to left field to make it 8-1.
 
Starting on the mound for the Rams was Jesse Meyer who picked up his first win of the season after throwing five innings of work. He allowed one run and only three hits while striking out five batters. Jake Rogers and Carson Childers each pitched an inning of relief, giving up one walk and not hits.
 
The offense continued in the fifth inning, tallying five more runs started with an RBI single by Cain for his third RBI of the game. After scoring on a fielder's choice and another hit by pitch, Williams added two more runs with a single through the left side.
 
Angelo State tallied 12 hits on the day while holding the Patriots to one run off of three hits, leaving seven on base.
 
Three Rams collected multiple hits in the game with Williams leading the squad with three hits while Jackson Hardy and Cain each collected two hits. Cain, Williams, and Seginowich all collected three RBIs while Nicholas Novak finished with two RBIs.
 
ASU earned its final two runs in the sixth as Justin Lee doubled down the left field line before Reese Johnson forced a walk for the final run of the game.
 
The Rams will host their home opener next weekend as they play a three game series against Arkansas – Fort Smith beginning Friday, Feb. 12.
