No. 24 Rambelles Host UTPB and WNMU This Weekend in Doubleheaders

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 24 Angelo State Rambelle softball team hosts the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons and the Western New Mexico Mustangs in two doubleheaders on Friday, March 19 and Sunday, March 21.

 Scouting the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons:
The Falcons are currently 12-7 overall with a 1-7 conference record after losing to the No. 3 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions this past weekend. The Lions outscored the Falcons 6-0 in game one, and 8-0 in the second game. The Falcons return one of their heavy hitters in senior April Arellano, who finished the 2020 season with a .397 batting average, scoring 15 runs and registering 25 hits, three doubles, one home run, 15 RBI, and four stolen bases on four attempts before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Arellano is currently batting with a .235 average, and has scored six runs, while registering 12 hits, four doubles, and 12 RBI so far this season.
 
Scouting the Western New Mexico Mustangs:
The Mustangs are currently 1-7 overall with a 1-7 conference record after losing to the Midwestern State Mustangs this past weekend. The Mustangs outscored WNMU 10-7 in game one, and 10-2 in the second game. WNMU returns one of their big sticks in senior Grisdey Paredes-Alvarez, who finished the 2020 season with a .400 batting average, scoring 16 runs and registering 20 hits, three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases on two attempts before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Paredes-Alvarez is currently hitting with a .273 batting average and has scored three runs this season. She has also registered six hits, one double, and two RBI.
 
 
Scouting the Rambelles:
  • Ashlyn Lerma leads the Rambelles on offense currently, hitting with a .400 batting average and scoring 15 runs, registering 16 hits, one double, one triple, and one RBI, while stealing four bases on six attempts.
  • Madison Fernandez trails behind Lerma on offense, hitting a .391 batting average and scoring 14 runs while registering 18 hits, four doubles, six home runs, and 23 RBI.
  • Courtney Barnhill currently leads the Belles in runs scored, scoring 20 runs on the season thus far. Barnhill is currently batting with a .348 average, registering 23 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 18 RBI, and eight stolen bases off of nine attempts.
  • Makayla Corbin leads the Rambelles from within the circle, throwing a 2.73 ERA on the season so far, throwing for 43.2 innings, and 31 strikeouts so far. Corbin is currently ranked 11th in the conference for her ERA, and opposing batting average with a .244.
