SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 24 Rambelle softball team decimated the competition in Mayer Stadium as Angelo State defeated the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons 8-0 in their doubleheader, run ruling the Falcons in both games.
Game One:
Genesis Armendariz stepped into the circle for the Rambelles and immediately got to work as she struck the first two batters out swinging for the fences, with the third out grounding out to the second baseman.
Ashlyn Lerma kicked the Rambelles offense off as she hit a single to the shortstop and beat the throw, stealing second base shortly afterwards.
Courtney Barnhill smashed a single out to right center field to score Lerma and take a 1-0 lead over UTPB early in the first inning.
Armendariz once again struck two batters out to begin the second inning, striking one out looking and the other swinging, as the third out came off a line drive to the shortstop for another quick three up, three down scenario.
Paxton Scheurer smacked a line drive down the left field line and advanced to second off of a wild pitch in the bottom of the second, and advancing to third and putting herself into scoring position for the Rambelles off of an error by the left fielder with Avery Ziegler advancing to second off of the same error. Scheurer scored the second run for the Rambelles as
Haylie Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to the left fielder, extending the Blue and Golds lead to 2-0.
Barnhill smashed the ball out of the park over the center field fence for another home run on the season, bringing the Rambelles to a 3-0 lead over the Falcons in the bottom of the third inning.
Armendariz did well within the center in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, as she threw another strikeout in the top of the fifth and let her defense show their skills as three batters ground out or popped up to the second baseman in the top of the sixth inning, sending the Rambelles back to bat once again.
Jade Strother smacked a double into right center field, and Zeigler hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Strother into scoring position at third.
Maleya Burns, pinch hitting for Mitchell, was walked to first, where Mitchell came in to pinch run, shortly stealing second base afterwards.
With two outs,
Ashton Dirner hit a single deep into center field, scoring two RBI as Strother and Mitchell crossed home plate to score two runs and extend Angelo States lead to 5-0 over UTPB. Dirner quickly stole second base as Barnhill came up to bat for the Rambelles, smacking a single to second base and beating the throw, and advancing Dirner to third and scoring her on the throw to bring the lead to 6-0.
Madison Fernandez hit a single and advance to second on a Falcon error, advancing Barnhill to third and scoring position for ASU.
Keilei Garcia hit a single into deep center field, scoring Barnhill and Fernandez to bring ASU to an 8-0 lead over the Falcons, ending the first game in favor of Angelo State as the Rambelles run ruled the Falcons in the bottom of the sixth inning.

- Barnhill had four at-bats, scoring two runs and registering three hits, one home run, one double, and three RBI against the Falcons.
- Fernandez had three at-bats, scoring one run and registering three hits and one double for the Rambelles.

- Armendariz pitched a complete game, throwing six strikeouts and facing 20 batters and allowing only one hit for the Rambelles.
Game Two:
Makayla Corbin stepped into the circle for the Rambelles in the top of the first inning of the second game and let the ASU defense show their hard work as two batters grounded and lined out to the first baseman, with the third out coming from a ground ball to the pitcher to give ASU their first chance at bat for game two.
Keilei Garcia hit a single to the shortstop in the bottom of the second inning to start things off for Angelo State. Stroud reached first on a fielders choice as Garcia was thrown out at second, stealing second and advancing to third on the throw to put herself into scoring position for ASU. Ziegler would be walked and stole second shortly after, with Hatty SHope up to bat for the Rambelles.h
Shope hit a single to center field and advanced to second on the throw as UTPB attempted to catch Stroud and Ziegler running for home, but were unsuccessful as both crossed home plate to score two runs for the Rambelles and give ASU a 2-0 lead over the Falcons.
Fernandez smacked her seventh home run of the season out of the park in the bottom of the third inning to bring ASU to a 3-0 lead over UTPB.
Ziegler smacked a triple out into deep right field, and scoring another run for the Rambelles as she stole home to bring ASU to a 4-0 lead over the Falcons.
Corbin went three up and three down in the top of the fifth as she struck one batter out looking, with one batter grounding out to the second baseman and the final out coming from a pop fly ball to the second baseman.
Dirner was walked to first in the bottom of the fifth inning, stealing second shortly afterwards with Barnhill up to bat. Barnhill would walk as well as Fernandez came to bat for ASU, where she smack a single right up the middle of the field and scored an RBI as Dirner crossed the plate to bring ASU to a 5-0 lead over UTPB.
Garcia hit a single to the pitcher and beat the throw to advance Fernandez to second and Barnhill to third to load the bases up with Strother up to bat for the Blue and Gold. Strother smashed a double out to center field, registering two RBI as Fernandez and Barnhill scored two runs and advancing Garcia to third into scoring position to bring ASUs lead to 7-0.
Shope smacked a single up the middle of the field, scoring Garcia and bringing the Rambelles to another run rule as Angelo State defeated the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons in the bottom of the fifth inning, 8-0.
