No. 24 Rambelles Head to Dallas For Doubleheaders Against No.6 Tyler and No. 2 Commerce

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 24 Angelo State Rambelle softball team travels to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as ASU plays two doubleheaders against the No. 6 UT Tyler Patriots on Friday, March 26 and the No. Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Sunday, March 28. The Rambelles are 16-7 overall with an 8-4 conference record.

Scouting the UT Tyler Patriots:
The Patriots are currently 18-4 with a 12-0 conference record after defeating the Midwestern State this past weekend. The Patriots outscored the Mustangs 4-1 in the first game and run ruled MSU in game two, 8-0. UT Tyler returns one of their main hitters in senior Serena Saldivar. Saldivar finished the 2020 season with a .386 batting average, finishing with 57 at-bats, 22 hits, two doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBI, and scoring 15 runs before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Saldivar is currently hitting with a .377 batting average and has registered 20 hits, four doubles, 13 RBI, and has scored five runs for UT Tyler.
 
Scouting the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions:
The Lions are currently 19-4 with a 12-0 LSC record after defeating the No. Southern Arkansas Muleriders in their first game, 5-2. The second game of the double header was not played due to bad weather. The Lions return one of their big hitters in sophomore Madison Schaefer. Schaefer finished the 2020 season with a batting average of .397, registering 68 at-bats, 27 hits, six doubles, six home runs, 23 RBI, two stolen bases on two attempts, and scored 18 runs before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schaefer currently has registered a .457 batting average, 32 hits, five doubles, seven home runs, 23 RBI, 14 stolen bases on 17 attempts, and has scored 25 runs so far this season.
 
Scouting the Rambelles:
  • Ashlyn Lerma currently leads the Rambelles offensively in batting average as she leads ASU with a .420 average. Lerma has registered 21 hits, one double, one triple, one RBI, seven stolen bases off of nine attempts, and has scored 19 runs for the Rambelles this season.
  • Madison Fernandez follows closely behind Lerma on offense as she has registered a .411 batting average, 56 at-bats, 23 hits, five doubles, seven home runs, 26 RBI, and has scored 21 runs on the season so far.
  • Makayla Corbin leads the Rambelles from within the circle, pitching for 51.2 innings on the season so far. Corbin has thrown 37 strikeouts for the Rambelles this season and has registered a .231 opposing batting average against ASUs opponents and ranks 12th in the conference. Corbin is currently ranked ninth in the conference in ERA with a 2.30.
