COMMERCE, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelles split the doubleheader with the No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions, losing game one 3-2, while defeating the Lions in game two, 3-0. The Rambelles move to a 17-10 overall record and a 9-7 record.
Game One Results:
Ashlyn Lerma started things off for Angelo State as she was walked to first base in the top of the first inning, stealing second base shortly afterwards.
Jade Strother fouled out to the catcher to bring
Courtney Barnhill to the plate for the Rambelles, where she cranked a double down the right field line to score Lerma to put ASU in a 1-0 lead over the Lions.
With
Makayla Corbin to pitch for the Rambelles in the circle, she struck out two batters with one looking and one swinging in the bottom of the first. One batter managed to score a run to tie the game at 1-1 off of a home run, but the third out came from a ground ball hit straight to the pitcher to give ASU another chance at bat.
The Lions put a runner on second off of a double hit to right center field in the bottom of the second, but two outs came quickly for the Lions as one batter flied out to the center fielder and another came from a ground ball hit down the third base line to the third baseman. The runner on second managed to steal third, and advanced to home on an error from the Rambelles, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead over Angelo State.
There would not be another run scored again until the top of the seventh inning as
Ashton Dirner, who walked to get on base and advanced to second on a single from Lerma to the left side of the field, scored off a single from Barnhill to tie the game at 2-2 with two runners on base.
Madison Fernandez would walk to first to load the bases up as
Keilei Garcia came up to bat, but unfortunately Garcia grounded out to the first baseman for the final out.
The Rambelles managed to get two outs in the bottom of the seventh off of a sacrifice bunt to the third baseman and a batter striking out looking, but the Lions managed to hit a single out into left field and scoring a run to put the Lions ahead in the bottom of the seventh, 3-2, ending the game as Texas A&M-Commerce defeated Angelo State in game one.

With
Genesis Armendariz in the circle to pitch for Angelo State in the second game, she went three up and three out as three Commerce batters would pop up or ground out to the second and third basemen in the bottom of the first inning to give Angelo State another chance to bat.
After Fernandez hit a fly ball out to the center fielder in left center field, Garcia walked to put a runner on first for
Hatty Shopes first home run of the season to bring ASU to a 2-0 lead over Texas A&M-Commerce.
Armendariz once again went three up and three out as one Lion batter grounded out to the second baseman, another lined out to the center fielder, and the final out of the inning came from a pop up to the second baseman down the right field line.
Armendariz and the Rambelles defense kept their guard up in the fourth and fifth innings as Angelo State was able to go three up and three out in both innings with multiple grounders and a pop fly were caught in the infield to maintain their 2-0 lead over Commerce.
With a 2-2 count up, Garcia smashed a single into the middle of the field and
Maleya Burns came in to pinch run for Garcia as Shope came up to the plate for the Rambelles. Shope walked and advanced Burns to second as Dirner came up to bat. Dirner was thrown out at first on a sacrifice bunt to the second baseman to advance Burns to third and Shope to second.
Makayla Stroud hit a ground ball straight to the second baseman and advanced Shope to third and scored Burns for an RBI and extending the Rambelles lead to 3-0 over the Lions in the top of the sixth inning. Shope attempted to steal home but was thrown out to end the inning.
The Lions left a runner on base in the bottom of the seventh inning as one batter was thrown out at second on a throw from the third baseman. The second out came from a fly ball out to the center fielder, and the final out of the game came from a grounder to the third baseman as Angelo State defeated the No. 2 nationally ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Lions in the second game, 3-0.
