Rambelles Rally in 7th Inning to Defeat TWU in Game Two, 5-4

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team battled hard in game two against the Texas Woman's Pioneers to go undefeated at home over the weekend as ASU defeated the Pioneers, 5-4. The Rambelles move to 21-10 overall with a 13-7 conference record.

Game One Results:
Texas Woman's started the game off after scoring a run off a double into center field with one out in the top of the first, but Makayla Corbin and the Rambelle defense quickly stopped TWU from scoring anymore runs after two grounders were hit to the pitcher and third baseman.

Angelo State scored two runs in the bottom of the first off of walks as both Ashlynn Box and Courtney Barnhill scored with Ashton Dirner and Hatty Shope both being hit by pitches with two outs, 2-1.

In the bottom of the third, Keilei Garcia hit her third home run of the weekend as she smashed a ball over the center field fence to bring ASU to a 3-1 lead over the Pioneers.

TWU responded by scoring another run in the top of the fourth off a single to left field with one out, but the Rambelles rallied behind Corbin and snuffed the Pioneers chances of scoring anymore runs once again with two quick outs, with one batter flying out to the center fielder and the other grounding out to the third baseman.

Jade Strother scored ASUs fourth run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after Mikayla Stroud hit a sacrifice bunt to the third baseman to advance Strother to third, while Ashlyn Lerma smashed a double into left center field to bring Strother home for an RBI, 4-2.

Barnhill scored another run for the Rambelles in the bottom of the fifth after Dirner hit a sacrifice fly out to the center fielder to bring ASU to a 5-2 lead over the Pioneers.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Stroud kicked things off for ASU as she reached first on an error by the Pioneers shortstop as Lerma hit her second triple of the year to score Stroud and put herself into scoring position to bring ASU to a 6-2 lead over TWU. Box smashed a double out to the center field fence to bring Lerma home for another run, 7-2.

Barnhill reached first on an error from the first baseman and advanced to second on the throw, while Box advanced all the way to home to score another run for the Rambelles to bring ASU to a six run lead, 8-2. Madison Fernandez would walk to first after being hit by a pitch.
