Rams Walk to 15-0 Victory over Eastern New Mexico in Series Opener

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 13th-ranked Angelo State baseball team tallied quite a few runs in Friday's series opener against Eastern New Mexico, beating the Greyhounds 15-0 at Foster Field at 1st Community Cred Union Stadium with only four hits in the game.

The Rams improve to 22-5 overall on the season and 17-5 in Lone Star Conference play while the Greyhounds move to 6-24, 5-22 LSC.

ASU scored its first run of the game in the first inning without a hit as Josh Elvir walked, stole second base before advancing to home on a double steal attempt.

Offense was hard to come by after that as both pitchers didn't allow another run through four innings of play.

Trent Baker started on the mound for the Rams, tossing a complete seven inning shutout while allowing only three hits with six strikeouts. Baker improves to 8-1 on the season and has now tossed three complete games this season

The Rams tallied their first hit of the night in the fifth inning as Aaron Walters hit a two-RBI single just over first base to score Charlie Bartlett and Jackson Hardy who got on base by a hit-by-pitch and a walk respectively. The next hit resulted in two more runs as Nicholas Novak hit a single to the right side, scoring Walters and Elvir to give the Rams a 5-0 lead. Nick Seginowich drove in the final run of the inning, grounding out to second base while scoring Novak in the process.

ENMU's pitching woes continued in the sixth inning as the Rams tallied nine runs while the Greyhounds allowed six walks and two hit-by-pitches in the inning. After three straight walks to start the inning, the first run scored on a wild pitch before Novak and Jordan Williams forced bases loaded walks to score two more runs.

Seginowich tallied another RBI as he hit a single to second base, while Reese Johnson capped of the inning with a three-run homer run to right field, hitting the first of his career as a Ram, extending ASU's lead to 15-0.

Novak and Johnson each finished with three-RBIs on the day while Walkers and Seginowich collected two each. Hardy finished the game with three walks as Eastern New Mexico allowed 12 walks in total.

The Rams and Greyhounds will conclude their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
