Rams Sweep Eastern New Mexico with Two Wins on Saturday

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 13th-ranked Angelo State baseball team won the twin-bill on Saturday to sweep the series against Eastern New Mexico, winning game one 5-1 and game two 19-7 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
With the sweep, the Rams improve to 24-5 overall on the season and 19-5 in Lone Star Conference play while the Greyhounds fall to 6-26, 5-24 LSC.
 
After the completion of the first game, Nicholas Novak made a mark in ASU history as he played in his 183rd career game, setting a new program record. He joins Josh Elvir and Trent Baker who also set new career records this season in home runs and wins respectively.
 
GAME ONE: Angelo State 5, Eastern New Mexico 1
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, the Greyhounds struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning as Trevor Moses ground out on a sac bunt to score the first run of the game.
 
The lead didn't last lone for ENMU as the Rams scored two in the bottom half of the inning as Novak reached base on a fielder's choice as Jackson Hardy scored in the process before Jordan Williams singled to score Elvir and take a 2-1 lead.
 
ASU added another run in the third inning as Charlie Bartlett singled up the middle to score Justin Lee who reached base after forcing a walk.
 
Benjamin Elder picked up the win for the Rams, improving to 6-1 on the mound this season as he threw seven innings of work with nine strikeouts and only two hits. Jake Rogers and Kyle Moseley each tossed one inning of relief.
 
The Rams added two more insurance runs in the eighth as Riley Peterson hit an RBI single while for a sacrifice fly by Hardy.
 
GAME TWO: Angelo State 19, Eastern New Mexico 7.
The second game of the day saw much more action as the Rams jumped out ahead with seven runs in the first inning. After ENMU went up 1-0, the Rams tied the game as Elvir scored on a passed ball before Novak singled up the middle to score two runs.
 
Williams singled to score Reese Johnson before Bartlett hit another two-RBI shot up the middle to give the Rams a 6-1 advantage. Hardy capped off the inning with a sac fly to right field.
 
The scoring continued for the Rams who added two runs in the second as Lee singled before Parker Bramlett flied out to right field for the sac hit. ASU added four runs in the third, capped off by a two-RBI home run by Aaron Walters.
 
ENMU found some life in the fifth inning, hitting an RBI single before a three-run home run over the left-field wall cut into ASU's lead, 13-5.
 
The Rams immediately answered, scoring on a sac fly by Bramlett and an RBI single by Bartlett before Ryan Neitsch hit his first career home run as a Ram, launching a two-run shot over the left-field wall.
 
In the sixth inning, Tyler Mendoza hit a triple to score Johnson before Bartlett forced a bases-loaded walk for ASU's last run.
 
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, earning his first decision of the season to improve to 1-0. He tossed five innings while giving up two earned runs off of four hits and six strikeouts. Connor Hart and Jake Morgan both pitched one inning of relief in the game.
 
The Rams will pause LSC action for a single game against Lubbock Christian at home on Tuesday before returning to league play with a three-game series against Cameron beginning Friday, Apr. 23.
