DALLAS, Texas – The 12
th-ranked Angelo State women's tennis team continued its winning streak in Lone Star Conference play as the Belles won their seventh straight contest, defeating Cameron 6-1 on Friday at the ASU Tennis Courts.
With the victory, the Belles improve to 12-3 overall on the season and 7-0 on Conference play while the Aggies move to 7-8, 1-5 LSC.
ASU picked up an early point, sweeping all three doubles matches to up go 1-0. The 13
th-ranked duo of
Valentina Gonzalez and
Ena Ovcina won a quick 6-1 before
Zoe Gubbels and
Virginie Becht sealed the point with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot.
Anna Schneemann and
Maria Delgadillo made a comeback to win 7-5 in their match at No. 3.
In singles play, 13
th-ranked Gonzalez was the first to finish after making quick work of her opponent, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.
After the Aggies made it 2-1 with a win at the No. 4 spot, Gubbels won her match at the fifth-spot 6-0, 6-2 before Becht clinched the dual for the Belles with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Also winning was
Dianela Rodriguez who won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 while Ovcina won the first set before bouncing back from a set to loss to win 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
The Belles continue LSC play at home on Saturday as they face Arkansas Fort Smith at 10 a.m. at the ASU Tennis Courts. Prior to the match, ASU will honor four seniors with a short presentation at 9:30 a.m.
