Rams Fall in Nonconference Game Against Lubbock Christian

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The comeback bid fell just short for the 13th-ranked Angelo State baseball team as the Rams fell to Lubbock Christian 5-3 in a nonconference game at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium on Tuesday night.

The loss snaps a four-game win streak for ASU, moving to 24-6 overall on the year while holding a 19-5 conference record. The Chaps even the season series against the Rams after falling in a three-game series 2-1 back in the beginning of March.

Lubbock Christian scored a run in each of the first five innings of the game to take a quick 5-0 advantage. The first run of the game came off an ASU error while scoring on a sacrifice fly in the second, a ground out to second in the third, a wild pitch in the fourth, and a single to right field in the fifth.

The Rams found some life in the seventh inning as Josh Elvir got Angelo State on the board wit ha single to right center, scoring Reese Johnson. At the next at bat, the Rams pulled off a double steal as Elvir stole second while Jackson Hardy delayed before stealing home to make it 5-2.

Jake Rogers took his first loss of the season while Carson Childers pitched 3.1 innings of relief while allowing three earned runs off of five hits. Austin Buley tossed 4.2 innings of work, allowing only one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Reese Johnson led off with a single followed by another base hit from Hardy to put runners on the corners. Hardy stole second before Elvir forced a walk to load the bases with no outs. After a flyout to right field, Nick Seginowich brought in one more run for the Rams, working a bases loaded walk, before a double play ended the comeback.

The Rams will return to Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they travel for a three-game series against Cameron beginning on Friday.
