No. 23 Rambelles Wrap Up Conference Play Against LCU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 23 Rambelles wrap up the regular season as Angelo State hosts the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals in a double header on Sunday, May 2. Angelo State currently has a 29-11 overall record with a 20-8 conference record. Games may possibly be moved due to weather, be sure to check with angelosports.com for more information.

Scouting the Chaparrals:
 The Chaparrals are currently 29-14 overall with a 17-11 conference record after the St. Edward's Hilltopeprs on April 25 in a doubleheader, 9-2 and 4-0. The Chaps return one of their offensive leaders from last season in senior, Athena Muniz. Muniz finished the 2020 season with a .396 batting average, scoring five runs and registering 19 hits, three doubles, one triple, one home run, and registering a .563 slugging percentage and a .423 on-base percentage before the season was cut short due to the pandemic. Muniz is currently hitting with a .380 batting average and has registered 46 hits, eight doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 28 RBI. She has scored 27 runs on the 2021 season so far.
 
Scouting the Rambelles:
  • Ashlyn Lerma continues to lead the Rambelles on offense with a .400 batting average, registering 42 hits, three double, two triples, driving in eight RBI, 16 stolen bases on 22 attempts, and scoring 31 runs for Angelo State.
  • Courtney Barnhill follows closely behind Lerma with a .383 batting average, registering 51 hits and ranking fifth in the conference, 16 doubles and leads the conference, one triple, six home runs, 38 RBI and tied for eighth in the conference, 19 stolen bases off of 22 attempts and ranks ninth in the conference, and scoring 46 runs for ASU, ranking fourth in the conference.
  • Ashlynn Box is currently hitting with a .379 batting average, registering 36 hits, 12 doubles and ranks ninth in the conference, two home runs, 27 RBI, seven stolen bases on seven attempts, and has scored 29 runs for the Rambelles.
  • Makayla Corbin leads the Rambelles from within the circle with a 2.63 ERA, pitching for 98.1 innings and throwing 59 strikeouts on the season so far. Corbin is ranked 11th in the conference in ERA and 12th in opposing batting average with a .245.
  • Genesis Armendariz follows closely behind Corbin with a 3.07 ERA, pitching for 102.2 innings and throwing 74 strikeouts this season. Armendariz ranks 15th in the conference in ERA, ninth in the conference in opposing batting average with a .227, ninth in innings pitched with 102.2, 11th in strikeouts with 74, and 11th in batters struck out looking.
