SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 11
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team earned a series sweep over St. Edward's on Saturday, defeating the Hilltoppers 8-3 in game three at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams have now won four straight games against the Hilltoppers this season as they improve to 20-3 overall and 15-3 in Lone Star Conference play while SEU falls to 7-15m 7-14 LSC.
In the bottom of the first inning,
Jordan Williams grounded out to the shortstop which allowed
Josh Elvir to come around for the first score of the game. In the top of the second, SEU tied the game with a single to right field to make it 1-1.
The Rams pulled away in the third inning hitting two home runs and tallied five runs. Elvir hit a two-run shot to center field, scoring
Parker Bramlett before
Aaron Walters hit an RBI single to right field.
Jackson Hardy capped off the winning with another two-run homer, this time to left field, hitting the third home run of his career as the Rams took a 6-1 lead.
Benjamin Elder started on the mound for the Rams as he picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing three runs off of eight hits with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Matt Szabo pitched two innings in relief, allowing only one walk while
Carson Childers closed the game with no hits through one inning of work.
The Hilltoppers tallied two more runs in the sixth, hitting a two-RBI single to center field to cut into the lead. Elvir answered in the bottom of the seventh, hitting another blast over the right-field wall for two more runs. He hit three home runs in the series against SEU.
Elvir's four RBIs and three hits led the Rams while Williams, Walters, Bramlett, and
Nicholas Novak each finished with two hits in the game.
The Rams will be back on the road next weekend as they travel for a tough matchup against No. 6 West Texas A&M beginning Friday, Apr. 9.
