Alamosa, Colo. – Coming off a 4-0 weekend inside the Junell Center at the 13
th Annual Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, the Belles hit the road for their first away contests of the season, facing Adams State tomorrow before playing a pair of matches on Friday.
The Grizzlies of Adams State are 2-2 after their opening weekend of contests at the 2021 Britkare Lady Buff Classic hosted by West Texas A&M. They played a full slate of Lone Star opponents, dropping matches to West Texas A&M and St. Edward's before beating UAFS and UT Permian Basin.
Offensively, the Grizzles are led by Shannon Mulkey with 36 kills and Sai Collins with 32 kills.
Mulkey and Collins, along with Chasey Blach, lead the team in blocks with Mulkey recording 12.0 blocks and Collins and Blach not far behind with 11.0 blocks. Freshman libero Sierra Leone Sanchez leads the Grizzlies with 41 digs in 12 sets played.
The Belles' offense was powered by outside hitter
Delaney Fuller and setter
Kailyn Gilbreath. Fuller led the team in all four games in kills, totaling 45 on the weekend, almost matching her total kills from this past spring (63 kills in 14 matches); Gilbreath averaged 10.5 assists per set as the Belles' attackers recorded 192 kills along with a .275 attack percentage.
Defensively, libero
Chloe Patton leads the team with 63 digs, averaging 4.85 per set. At the net,
Grace White has 11.0 blocks through the opening weekend and
Baleigh Allen has 9.0 blocks, including three solo blocks.
After this match, the Belles will compete at the Colorado Premier Tournament on Friday and Saturday, with matches against Lynn and Regis on Friday.
