Arkadelphia, Ark. – At the conclusion of a back-and-forth contest, the Angelo State women's basketball team returned to winning ways after downing Ouachita Baptist 80-72 in Arkadelphia, Ark. Saturday evening.
The Rambelles improve to 3-1 with the victory while Ouachita Baptist falls to just 1-1 on an early season after the loss.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- Madisen Honea got things started for the Rambelles, scoring the teams first five points on the evening.
- Madeline Stephens hit two consecutive layups as the Rambelles surged ahead 11-4 with 6:28 still remaining in the first quarter.
- The Tigers would go on a 9-2 run to knot the game back up at 13.
- Payton Brown would make the Rambelles final three points of the quarter as the teams would go into the second quarter tied at 21.
- The teams went back and forth in the second, another layup from Brown would pull the Belles to back within one, 32-31, with 5:57 to go in the half.
- Alexandra Bednarczyk made three straight for the Belles to close out the quarter as they went into the half trailing 37-36.
- Stephens and Sawyer Lloyd made a pair of layups as the Rambelles jumped ahead by eight, 49-41 with 5:58 to go in the third.
- The Rambelles lead would grow to 11 as Stephens hit two free throws, putting the Blue and Gold ahead 56-45 with just under four minutes left in the quarter.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant made a layup with 37 seconds left, as the Belles took a 60-50 lead into the final frame.
- McGhee-Pleasant finished an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Rambelles their largest lead of the contest at 15, 65-50 with 9:17 to go.
- The Tigers would not lie down, as they chipped away at the lead over the next seven minutes and had the lead down to four, 75-71, with 2:42 remaining.
- The Rambelles would end the game only allowing one point in the final two minutes to edge the Tigers 80-72.
GAME STATS
- Stephens had her best game of the year Saturday evening, posting a double-double with 24 points on 11-of-15 (73 percent) shooting and 12 rebounds.
- Brown had 19 points, McGhee-Pleasant 17, and Honea scored 13 to round out the double-digit scorers on the evening.
- The Rambelles shot a season best 50 percent from the field on 35-of-70 shooting.
- The Blue and Gold held a 42-34 rebounding advantage over Ouachita Baptist, including 15-10 on the offensive glass.
- Brown led the way with three steals as the team forced the Tigers into 26 turnovers on the evening.
- The Rambelles scored 30 points off turnovers and had 56 points in the paint.
