SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team enters this week's Lone Star Conference Tournament with their backs against the wall and an upset on their mind; the Rambelles are the eighth seed in the tournament, scheduled to face regular season champions West Texas A&M in Canyon on Thursday night. The Lady Buffs finished the conference schedule with a 16-0 record, winning the conference by a two-match margin.
The Belles are 11-17 on the season and 7-9 in conference play and are in a seven-match skid, last winning on October 14
th in Austin against St. Edward's.
Marina Sanchez and
Sydney Mundkowsky led the Belles' offense last weekend, each recording 11 kills. Sanchez also hit a team-best .440, while Mundkowsky turned in a respectable .267.
Sanchez also led the team with six blocks this past weekend; the Presidio native is third in the LSC with 1.14 blocks per set this season.
Caleigh Enax and Ireland Ferguson paced the Belles with 22 digs apiece; Enax is tenth in the conference with 4.26 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M is 24-4 on the season and 16-0 in conference play. The Lady Buffs have not suffered defeat since September 10
th in San Angelo against UT Tyler at the LSC Crossover.
The Lady Buffs lead the LSC in blocks per set and opponent hitting percentage; their 2.48 blocks per set is ninth-best in Division II.
Freshman Taytum Stow leads the conference with 1.21 blocks per set, 11
th in Division II this season. Outside hitter Torrey Miller is fourth in the LSC with 3.77 kills per set.
The Lady Buffs have swept the Belles twice this season, once in San Angelo and once in Canyon.
