PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Ram track & field team closed out the first indoor event of the season today, finishing up the heptathlon at the Boo Rogers Combined Events hosted by Pittsburg State on Saturday.
Kyle Lumpkins was the top Division II finisher in the meet, recording 5,329 points to finish second overall while Simon Rey finished fifth with a total score of 5,280 points, both earning NCAA provisional marks. Lumpkins had an excellent second day, recording second-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (8.24), and the pole vault (4.60m), while Rey took first in the pole vault with a height of 4.80m. Rey and Lumpkins also took third and fourth in the 1,000-meter run respectively, running 2:49.75 and 2:50.20.
"It was an excellent end to the semester for both Kyle and Simon," said Head Coach Tom Dibbern. "Simon bounced back from a slow start to the meet and Kyle did a great job throughout the competition. Both marks will give them a solid shot at the national meet.
The ASU track teams will take a break through the rest of December before coming back to competition on Jan. 13 at Texas Tech's Corky Classic.
