Rambelles Hit the Century Mark in Big Win

SAN ANGELO, Texas – In their final contest before heading into the winter break, the Angelo State women's basketball team eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time since 2019 in their 101-65 victory over Schreiner in the Junell Center Monday afternoon.
 
The Rambelles improve to 9-2 on the season and remain 4-1 in Lone Star Conference play heading into the winter break. The Mountaineers fall to 6-6 on the season.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Four quick points by both Sawyer Lloyd and Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant put the Rambelles ahead 10-2 early in the first.
  • Keniah Williams kept the Rambelles lead at eight, 19-11, with a fast break layup with just over three minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • The Mountaineers went on an 8-0 run before Madeline Stephens made a layup to give the Rambelles a 21-19 lead going into the second.
  • Lloyd extended the Rambelles lead to 10, 35-25 with 6:29 to go in the first half.
  • Schreiner again showed their grit and brought the game back within three, 35-32 with just under five minutes to go in the quarter.
  • The Rambelles would respond in a huge way, going on a 20-0 run to close out the second quarter to take a dominant 52-32 lead into the half.
  • Kyla Cobb got in on the scoring for the Rambelles, hitting a jumper to extend the Rambelles lead to 26, 63-37 with just over five minutes in the third.
  • The Mountaineers again clawed their way back within 11, 68-57 before Aicha Ndir and Stephens each scored to give the Rambelles a 72-57 lead going into the final frame.
  • A bucket by freshman Olivia Pedigo put the Rambelles up by 30, 87-57 with 5:12 to go in the contest.
  • Cobb, Ndir, and Kenslee Konarik all scored in the last minute to see the Rambelles over the 100-point mark for the first time this season, defeating Schreiner by a final of 101-65.
 
GAME STATS
  • McGhee-Pleasant led all scorers in the contest en route to her third double-double of the year with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Lloyd had another complete game all-around as she finished with a double-double: 18 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, six steals, and a block.
  • Stephens also flirted with a double-double as she finished the contest with 16 points and nine boards to go along with five assists.
  • Williams had a career high 14 points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes on the court.
  • Briley Merket hit three triples as she had nine points and an assist against the Mountaineers.
  • The Rambelles shot 44 percent from the field in their highest scoring game of the season, 39-89.
  • The Rambelles also converted 75% of their free throw attempts, going 15-20 from the charity stripe.
  • The Rambelles dominated on the glass, pulling down 67 rebounds, 21 on the offensive end.
  • In an all-around complete game, the Rambelles had 28 assists and 12 steals in the wire-to-wire win over Schreiner.
 
 
NEXT UP
The Rambelles head into the winter break and do not play again until they road trip to New Mexico to face Western NM on Dec. 30th and Eastern NM on Jan. 1st.
