SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team continued their winning streak inside Stephens Arena at the Junell Center Tuesday night, defeating UTPB 71-55 for their seventh-straight home win.
The Rambelles hit a season-best 11 threes, shooting 42.3 percent on 26 attempts. From the field, they shot 43.1 percent while holding the Falcons to a 38.3 percent shooting night from the floor and 28 percent from beyond the arc.
The hosts also went 10-of-14 from the free-throw line while the Falcons only went 2-of-12 from the charity stripe.
The Rambelles stormed out to early lead courtesy of three free throws and a three-pointer from
Blakely Gerber, as well as a three-pointer by
Payton Brown to make it 9-2;
Sawyer Lloyd would hit a pair of threes in the period while
Ashlynn Sharp added one as well. The Rambelles hit five of their 11 threes in the first frame.
The second quarter proved to be the difference as the Rambelle defense held the Falcons to only six points for the entire quarter, including shutting out the visitors for the final 7:45 of action before halftime, racking up a 12-0 run in the Rambelles' favor to give them an 11-point halftime lead, a lead they would concede for the remainder of the contest.
The Rambelles would shoot 48.3 percent in the second half to extend their lead, with the 16-point difference representing the largest lead for the Rambelles on the evening.
For the second time this season, all five of the starters for
Alesha Ellis' team scored in double figures, having last done so on January 13
th versus Midwestern State.

Madeline Stephens and
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant both recorded double-double, the first game this season that two Rambelles have tallied double-doubles. Stephens scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season while McGhee-Pleasant scored 10 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Gerber led the team in scoring with 17 points, including a season-high three three-pointers; the Nazareth native nearly got a double-double of her own, grabbing eight rebounds.
For the fourth time this season, Bronw played all 40 minutes, flirting with a triple-double in the process. The Wayland Baptist transfer scored 12 points, tied her season-high with nine assists and grabbed seven rebounds; for the game, the Rambelles as a team out-rebounded the Falcons 42-35.
Lloyd scored 11 points, making a trio of threes and nabbing a team-high four steals, leading the Rambelle defense that forced 22 Falcons turnovers.
Sharp hit a pair of threes to tally six points in 11 minutes off the bench.
The Falcons offense was led by Ogechi Nwodo, who recorded a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double.
The Rambelles improve to 8-10 overall on the season and 5-2 in conference play; winless in four attempts, they look to shake their road woes on Thursday in Silver City against Western New Mexico.
