#9 Rambelles to Host Angelo State Invitational This Weekend

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team, who moved up from #18 to #9 in this week's NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll, are back in action this weekend to host their second tournament in as many weeks, hosting Texas A&M International and New Mexico Highlands as a part of the Angelo State Invitational Presented by Bahlman Cleaners.

Through two weekends, the Rambelles lead the country with 23 home runs hit this season; they also lead all of Division II with 103 total runs scored and 49 walks drawn this season.

The Rambelles also lead the conference with four double plays turned on defense; offensively, they rank in the top ten nationally in hits (3rd – 113 hits) and slugging percentage (4th - .677).

Paxton Scheurer's eight home runs is second-best in all of Division II and her 19 hits are 4th in the country. The Rambelles' third baseman leads the country with 25 RBIs so far this season. The Mansfield native is also second in the country in total bases.

Lindsey Evans is second to Scheurer in the conference in hits, with 18 on the season; her four home runs are third-best in the LSC this season and she is fourth in the country in total bases.

Ashlyn Lerma and Haylie Mitchell are second and fifth in the conference in stolen bases, with nine and eight, respectively, as the Rambelles average 2.45 swiped bags per game.

In the circle, Torrey Hogan is one of five players in the country to record six wins on the young season while Genesis Armendariz is one of two pitchers in the conference to record two saves on the season.
 
SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International is currently 4-7 on the season; they share three common opponents with the Rambelles, having lost to Southeastern Oklahoma and Rogers State while beating #16 Southern Arkansas.

They went 3-2 last weekend, defeating Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State and Hillsdale in Texas A&M-Kingsville's tournament.

The Dustdevils will face the Rambelles three times this weekend, with the two teams also scheduled to face each other three more times in April.
 
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
New Mexico Highlands is 2-2 on the season, with a pair of losses to Eastern New Mexico and wins over UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico, the letter of which saw the Cowgirls come back from a 7-0 deficit to win 9-7 in walk-off fashion.

The Rambelles are 2-0 against the Cowgirls, with the two teams most recently meeting in 2020 in San Angelo, where the Rambelles claimed a 10-0 victory in five innings.

Following this weekend, the Rambelles open conference play on the road on March 4th against Cameron.
