SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 12
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team split its doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, winning game one 10-4 before falling 15-6 in game two at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the split, the Rams now sit with an 8-3 overall record, both overall and in Lone Star Conference play.
Game One: ASU 10, OC 4
The Rams jumped out in front in the first game of the day, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Aaron Walters brought in the first run with an RBI single followed by a couple of singles from
Justin Lee and
Austin Beck to the right side to make it 3-0.
ASU poured it on in the third with five more runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Beck hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score
Tayten Tredaway while
Jackson Hardy reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in
Tripp Clark in the process.
Koby Kelton added two more with a two-RBI shot to right field to end the inning.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, tossing five innings with four runs and six hits to pick up his first win of the season. He added four strikeouts on the day while giving up two walks.
The Rams concluded their scoring in the fourth inning with two more runs as Beck and Lee executed a double steal with Lee taking home after the throw attempt to second. Beck came around to score on a single by
Kamden Kelton to make it 10-0 in favor of the Rams.
The Eagles ended the shutout in the fifth, scoring two runs before adding two more in the sixth but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
Hunter Townsend pitched one inning of relief, allowing only one hit, while
Parker Tennill closed the game in the seventh with one inning on the mound, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
Game Two: OC 15, ASU 6
Things got out of hand early for the Rams in game two of the doubleheader as the Eagles led off the first inning with a solo home run to center field. OC added four more runs in the first frame to jump ahead 5-0.
The Rams got three runs back in the bottom of the inning as Hardy and Kelton both got on base before coming home on a two-RBI double by Tredaway. Lee added one more with a single to cut the lead to 5-3.
OC found a way to answer back in the next inning, scoring six more runs, capped off by a two-run home run to extend the lead to 11-3.
The Eagles had back-to-back two-run homers in the fourth and fifth innings as their lead grew to 15-3 through four and a half innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lee added two runs for ASU with a single to left field while
Jordan Williams scored from third on a double play in the sixth inning.
Justin Low pitched the most for the Rams in game two, throwing 2 1/3 innings of relief while allowing no hits with three strikeouts and one walk but the damage was already done by the Eagles.
The Rams and Eagles conclude their four-game series tomorrow afternoon with game four set for 1 p.m. at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
