SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball teams returns to action following a two-week hiatus to open Lone Star Conference play this weekend in the Sooner State, with doubleheaders against Cameron on Friday and Oklahoma Christian on Sunday.
The Rambelles are 15-1 this season and have won 14 games in a row, having not lost since February 5
th.
The Rambelles rank in the top ten nationally in home runs (2
nd – 26), slugging percentage (7
th - .635), walks drawn (7
th – 68), on-base percentage (8
th - .458), and shutouts (9
th – five).
Paxton Scheurer leads the conference and is second in the country with nine home runs this season and 32 RBIs. The third baseman is hitting a team-best .490 this season and is slugging 1.143.
Bailey Martinez leads the conference with seven doubles this season while
Ashlynn Box leads the LSC with a .610 on-base percentage. Seven of Martinez's 15 hits have been doubles while Box has nine walks to only five strikeouts and is hitting .484 to boot.
Ashlyn Lerma is second in the conference with 14 stolen bases on the season.
Six of the nine Rambelles in the starting lineup have drawn as many or more walks than times they have struck out this season – Scheurer, Box, Martinez,
Lindsey Evans, Lerma and
Madison Fernandez.
As a team, they have drawn 68 walks and been hit by 11 pitches while striking out 76 times.
In the circle, the Rambelles pitchers own a team ERA of 2.01, striking out 78 batters in 101 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .240 against the Rambelles this season.
Genesis Armendariz is ninth in the LSC with a 1.49 ERA and is third with seven wins on the season. She is also one of two pitchers to record two saves in the LSC this season.
Torrey Hogan is 6-0 on the season with a 2.17 ERA, having struck out 32 batters in 42 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron is 10-6 on the season; in common opponents with the Rambelles, they are 0-4, with a pair of losses to Rogers State, as well as losses to Southeastern Oklahoma and Arkansas Tech while the Rambelles are 3-1 against the same opponents.
The Aggies are hitting .301 as a team, with six batters hitting over .300 on the season. They average 5.4 runs per game and are slugging .462 as a team.
In the circle, their pitching staff owns a 3.73 team ERA, allowing 121 hits and 38 walks in 107 innings of work while also striking out 88 batters. Opponents are hitting .276 against the Aggies this season.
The Rambelles are 2-3 in their last five games in Lawton, Oklahoma, scoring 27 runs to the Aggies' 28 in those five games.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Oklahoma Christian, the nation's 18th-ranked team, is 11-4 overall on the season; in common opponents with the Rambelles, the Eagles are 2-2 this season, with wins over Colorado School of Mines and Southeastern Oklahoma while taking losses to Rogers State and Southern Arkansas, with both those losses coming by 1-0 score lines.
The Eagles are hitting .341 as a team with seven batters over .300 and two batters over .400. They average 4.9 runs per game and are slugging .481 as a team.
In the circle, their pitching staff owns a 2.17 ERA and have recorded a conference-best four saves on the season. They have only walked 29 batters in 100 innings of work and opponents are hitting only .217 against the Eagles.
The Rambelles have lost their last four games against the Eagles, with a pair of losses in Edmond in 2020 where the Eagles outscored the Rambelles 18-2.
