Extra-Base Hits Lead the Rams to 20-3 Victory Over Drury

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 17th-ranked Angelo State baseball team put on an offensive showing against Drury on Saturday, defeating the Panthers 20-3 in a non-conference game at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
With the victory, the Rams improve to 16-5 overall while Drury moves to 13-3.
 
The Rams finished with 13 total extra-base hits, including 12 doubles which set a new program record for most doubles in a game, surpassing the previous record of nine doubles back in 2012.
 
The offense started early for the Rams who tallied six runs in the second inning as Justin Harris got things going with an RBI double to score Tyler Boggs. After adding a run off an error in the outfield, Koby Kelton singled to bring in a run before back-to-back RBI doubles by Aaron Walters and Justin Lee, and a single by Austin Beck made it 6-0.
 
The Rams added a few more runs in the third as Thomas Cain came in a hit a two-RBI single before Kelton picked up his second hit of the game, a double down the left-field line to score two more, making it a 10-0 lead for ASU after three innings.
 
Benjamin Elder started on the mound for the Rams as he picked up his third win of the season to improve to 3-0 after throwing five scoreless innings with four hits and six strikeouts. Earning his first save of the season was Jack Brinley who threw four innings of relief, allowing two earned runs off of five hits while striking out four batters.
 
Drury added its first runs of the game in the sixth inning, scoring on a single to right field before a double play allowed another run to make it 10-2. ASU got one run back in the bottom half of the inning as Boggs doubled to score Kamden Kelton.
 
After a solo home run by the Panthers in the seventh, the Rams put the game away, scoring eight total runs in the inning. Harris started things off with his first career home run, a solo shot to left field, before doubles by Walters, Beck, and Kelton added four more runs. Closing out the inning was Boggs, who tallied his second RBI on a single, and Cain who hit a two-RBI double to left field.
 
Cain finished with a game-high four RBIs while three different batters collected three hits in the game and four others recorded two hits.
 
The Rams and Panthers will close out the series tomorrow at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
