#17 Rambelles to Face UTPB, Western New Mexico on the Road

SAN ANGELO – Following a successful weekend to open their home conference schedule, the Angelo State softball team makes the trip west this weekend for road doubleheaders against UTPB on Friday (2 p.m.) before facing Western New Mexico on Sunday (1 p.m. central time, 12 p.m. mountain time).

The Rambelles are coming off a week in which they went 3-1, claiming a pair of one-run victories over Eastern New Mexico before splitting with sixth-ranked West Texas A&M.

The Rambelles are batting .325 as a team this season and have hit 31 home runs as a team this season, tied for most in the LSC.

They have drawn 99 walks as a team and own a .432 on-base percentage, both of which are second in the conference this season.

On the bases, they have stolen 53 bases in 57 attempts, led by Ashlyn Lerma's 23 stolen bases in 23 steal attempts. The Rambelles' second baseman is fourth in the country with her 23 steals and is second in the LSC, one behind Loren Kelly of Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Paxton Scheurer leads the conference with nine home runs this season, more than four teams in the LSC, and has 38 RBIs, tied for most in all of Division II.

In the circle, the Rambelles have been led by current reigning LSC Pitcher of the Week Genesis Armendariz. The sophomore has a 10-3 overall record and a 1.98 ERA in 17 appearances, making 11 starts. She has thrown seven complete games, striking out 64 batters in 67.1 innings pitched. Opponents are only hitting .220 against the Hobbs, New Mexico native.

Torrey Hogan has been the other mainstay for the Rambelles in the circle, making 13 starts this season. Hogan has a 3.69 ERA and a 7-2 overall record, with an opponent batting average of .276 in 62.2 innings of work.
Defensively, the Rambelles have turned a conference-best 11 double plays this season.
 
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
UT Permian Basin is 16-13 overall on the season and 3-5 in conference play. They are coming off a weekend in which they dropped both doubleheaders to top-ranked UT Tyler and #20 Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Falcons are hitting .328 as a team and lead the conference with 254 hits in 29 games. Aracely Araiza leads the LSC with 11 doubles this season while Julia Bumford is tied with Scheurer for the LSC lead in total bases, with 67.

The Falcons' pitching staff has a 4.51 ERA this season and an opponent batting average of .271.
 
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico is 4-17 overall on the season and 1-7 in conference play, with their lone conference win coming on March 6th against Midwestern State in a 12-10 contest.

The Mustangs are hitting .303 as a team at the plate this season, led by Janae Ruiz's .489 average.

The pitching staff has an 8.51 ERA this season, last in the conference; opponents are hitting .383 against the Mustangs this season.
 
Following this weekend, the Rambelles are back home for a pair of big matchups, hosting top-ranked UT Tyler and #20 Texas A&M-Commerce.
