Louisville, Ky. – Coming off a weekend in which she was on fire from the plate for the Angelo State softball team, the National
Fastpitch Coaches Association (
NFCA) has named
Rambelles third baseman Paxton
Scheurer the
NFCA Division II Louisville Slugger Player of the Week, the organization announced this afternoon.
Over a six-game week in which the
Rambelles went 5-1, the Mansfield native hit .545 (12-for-22) from the plate, with nine of her 12 hits going for extra bases and seven home runs. She also drove in 14 runs, scored nine times, and recorded an obscene 1.591 slugging percentage for the week.
Against No. 6 West Texas A&M last Monday,
Scheurer picked up three hits in seven at-bats and 2 RBIs over two games as the
Rambelles split with the Lady Buffs.
Against UT Permian Basin, she hit three home runs in game one, driving in six runs in the
Rambelles' 11-8 victory over the Falcons. She left the yard again in game two to tie that contest, going 2-for-3 for the game.
On Sunday against Western New Mexico, she hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning of game one to give the
Rambelles the lead, one they would not relinquish; in the final game of the weekend, she homered two more times, driving in three runs in the
Rambelles' 8-0 run-rule victory over the Mustangs.
This weekend, her two multi-homer games bring her up to four multi-homer games this season; her 16 home runs are the sixth-most in program history, and she leads all of Division II in home runs, RBIs (50), and slugging percentage (1.114).
This is
Scheurer's first national player of the week honor and her second weekly award, having been named LSC Hitter of the Week on February 8
th. The junior is also the first
Rambelle to receive national player of the week honors since teammate
Keilei Garcia did so back on April 14
th of last season.
Scheurer and the
Rambelles embark on a pivotal weekend of play inside Mayer Stadium, hosting top-ranked UT Tyler on Friday before hosting #21 Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday.
