SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 14
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Cameron to claim the series on Saturday, winning 16-3 and 11-4 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With both wins today, the Rams improve to 35-10 overall on the year, going 33-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
GAME ONE: ASU 16, CU 3
The Aggies struck first in game one of the doubleheader, hitting a two-run homer run in the first inning to take an early lead.
ASU took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring seven runs while batting through the lineup.
Aaron Walters started things off with a three-run homer of his own while
Thomas Cain doubled for an RBI before
Justin Harris took a ball over the left field fence for three more runs.
Walters kept it going in the second inning, hitting his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot to right field. ASU added two more runs in the inning, one off a wild pitch and another off a single by
Tayten Tredaway to score
Jordan Williams.
The Rams continued to score in the third inning as Walters collected two more RBIs with a double down the right field line before
Justin Lee doubled to center to give ASU a 14-2 advantage.
Aaron Munson earned his seventh win of the season after throwing six innings with 10 hits and only two earned runs. He struck out seven batters on the day and did not allow a walk.
Parker Tennill tossed one inning in relief, giving up one hit with two strikeouts.
After a couple scoreless innings,
Ryan Neitsch added another run for the Rams as he tripled to score
Derrick Winn who forced a walk to get on base.
Charlie Bartlett brought in the final run for ASU, hitting a single up the middle.
GAME TWO: ASU 11, CU 4
In the second game, Williams brought in the first run for the Rams, hitting a sac-fly to center field to score
Austin Beck in the first.
The Rams added another run in the second inning off a throwing error to go up 2-0.
Cameron got on the board in the top of the third inning, hitting back-to-back solo home runs to tie the game.
ASU hit another sac-fly in the bottom half of the frame, regaining the lead as Cain flied out to center field, bringing home Walters.
The Aggies found another home run in the fourth, hitting a two-run shot to deep center field to take their first lead of the day at 4-3.
Jake Rogers started on the mound for the Rams, throwing four innings of work with seven hits and four earned runs as he improved to 9-1 on the year. Pitching in relief was
Price Siemering who threw two innings without a hit while
Parker Tennill closed out the final inning without a hit as well.
Angelo State answered again, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped off by a three-run blast by Lee to give ASU a 7-4 advantage. In the fifth inning,
Koby Kelton singled to left field, scoring Harris to extend ASU's lead.
ASU added three more runs in sixth, scoring on a passed ball, a throwing error, and a ground out by Winn to close out the game.
The Rams and Aggies will close out their series tomorrow afternoon with game four beginning at 1 p.m.
