Rams Drop Doubleheader Against WT on Saturday

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The seventh-ranked Angelo State baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader against No. 14 West Texas A&M as the Buffs used the long ball to defeat the Rams 14-11 and 7-3 on Saturday at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

With the losses, the Rams move to 27-10 overall on the year and 25-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
 

GAME ONE: WTAMU 14, ASU 11

A slugfest broke out in game one of the doubleheader, as the Rams and Buffs combined for 25 runs. ASU jumped out on top, scoring one run in the first inning and five in the second, capped off by a two-RBI single by Jordan Williams.

The Buffs took control over the next two innings, scoring five runs in the third and seven in the fourth, hitting a grand slam in each of the innings to go up 12-6.

ASU got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth as Williams hit an RBI double to left-center while Tayten Tredaway hit a sac-fly to cut the lead to four runs.

Jake Rogers started game one for ASU, throwing three 2/3 innings with eight hits and nine runs while Price Siemering tossed three innings in relief, allowing two runs on two hits.

WT added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to go up 14-8 heading into the ninth.

The Rams kept up the battle in the ninth as Tripp Clark hit a three-run homer to left-center but could not overcome the deficit.


GAME TWO: WTAMU 7, ASU 3
After a scoreless first inning in game two of the day, the Rams took a one-run lead in the bottom of the second as Tredaway and Clark hit back-to-back doubles.

In the fifth inning, the Buffs hit two singles for their first run to tie the game.

The Rams got the lead back immediately in the bottom half of the frame, as Austin Beck hit a two-run blast over the left field wall, scoring Jackson Hardy in the process to go up 3-1.

Aaron Munson started game two, throwing all seven innings while giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts.

WT hit a lead-off double in the sixth inning before scoring on a deep sac-fly to left-center, cutting ASU's lead to one run. The Buffs took the lead in the seventh, scoring five runs while hitting their third grand slam of the day to take the win.

ASU will close out the series against the Buffs tomorrow with game four beginning at 1 p.m.
