Tyler, Texas - The Angelo State softball team's season ended Friday night as they won game one 8-3 over Colorado Christian to send the Cougars home before they fell to hosts UT Tyler 2-0 in the nightcap of the South Central Regional.
Against Colorado Christian, the Rambelles started things off in the first inning, with back-to-back singles by
Ashlyn Lerma and
Paxton Scheurer preceding a
Lindsey Evans three-run homer, a shot that just crept over the right-field fence.
The Rambelles scored again in the third inning, with Lerma and Evans drawing walks before the pair scored on an
Ashlynn Box single, with Evans scoring on a throwing error by the Cougars' right fielder.
Box would score when the next batter
Madison Fernandez went the opposite way, homering to left-center field, extending the lead to 7-0.
The Cougars would score twice in the fourth and once in the sixth to make it 7-3.
Mykayla Stroud would lay down a perfect squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-3, which was the game's final score.
Torrey Hogan picked up the win, throwing 6.2 innings and allowing five hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three.
Ashton McMillan recorded the final out inside the circle for the Rambelles.
The win saw the Rambelles turn around and face the nation's top-ranked team in UT Tyler.
LSC Newcomer of the Year Tatum Goff started in the circle for the Patriots, shutting out the Rambelles.
Lerma, Evans,
Madison Fernandez, and
Haylie Mitchell were the only Rambelles to record hits against Goff, all of which were singles.
A Goff RBI single and an Ashley Perez RBI double proved the difference as the Patriots claimed a 2-0 victory.
Despite the loss,
Genesis Armendariz turned in an impressive performance for the second-straight night. The New Mexico native only allowed seven hits and two runs against one of the nation's best offenses.
