SAN ANGELO, Texas – The sixth-ranked Angelo State baseball team defeated Texas A&M – Kingsville in the final game of the South Central regional, winning 14-2 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the win, the Rams improve to 48-11 and will host the South Central Super Regional next weekend against Colorado Mesa.
Justin Lee brought in the first run of the game, hitting a single to right field to score
Aaron Walters. In the third, ASU added two runs, scoring on an error and a triple by Lee while
Koby Kelton made it 5-0 in the fourth inning as he hit a single to left field, scoring
Reese Johnson and
Thomas Cain.
The Rams extended their lead to double digits in the fifth inning, scoring on an error and a wild pitch while
Justin Harris singled for an RBI, Johnson reached on a fielder's choice to score one, and Kelton laid down a sac-bunt to score Harris as ASU went up 10-0.
Carson Childers blanked the Javelinas for five straight innings as he started on the mound for ASU. Childers finished with seven innings pitched, allowing only one run and one walk with seven hits.
The Javelinas pushed in their first run of the game in sixth, scoring on a single to center field. TAMUK added one more run in the eighth, doubling down the left field line for their final run of the game.
ASU added four more runs in the ninth, getting two off a double by
Tripp Clark. Kelton followed up with a double of his own to score Clark before Walters singled to go up by 12.
Kyle Moseley closed out the game with two innings of work, allowing one run off two hits with a strikeout.
The Rams will face the Mavericks in a best of three series beginning on Friday, May 27 with times to be determined.
