SAN ANGELO, Texas – After dominating the offensive and defensive glass, the Angelo State women's basketball team earned their eighth consecutive victory after defeating Midwestern State 85-65 in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center Thursday evening.
The Rambelles improve to 14-2 on the season and are now 9-1 in Lone Star Conference play, riding a now eight game winning streak. The Mustangs fall to 4-12 on the season and 2-8 in LSC action.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The Rambelles turned defense into offense early on, scoring nine points off turnovers within the first five minutes to take an early 13-4 lead.
- Madeline Stephens converted another fast break off a pass from Landry Morrow to extend the Rambelles lead to 13, 17-4.
- Midwestern State was able to cut into the lead, but Sawyer Lloyd hit a triple to beat the first quarter buzzer to give the Rambelles a 22-16 lead after one.
- The Mustangs cut the lead to just four before the Rambelles went on an 11-0 run to jump ahead 34-19 with 4:33 to go.
- Morrow made a layup on the fast break to extend the Rambelles lead to its largest in the first half at 18, 39-21.
- The Rambelles forced 13 turnovers in the first two quarters, taking a 39-24 lead into the break.
- MSU came out of the half looking to chip away at the lead and were able to get back within 11, trailing 41-30 with 6:36 to go in the quarter.
- Madisen Honea and Morrow combined to score 10 points down the stretch to give the Rambelles a 59-41 lead going into the final frame.
- Brighton Adams hit a pair of free throws to extend the Rambelles lead to its largest of the game, 23 points, 75-52, with 4:59 remaining.
- Kyla Cobb, Alexandra Bednarczyk, and Briley Merket scored down the stretch as the Rambelles won game number 14 on the season, their eighth in a row 85-65.
GAME STATS
- Lloyd led all scorers with 20 points on the evening to go along with six steals, six rebounds, four assists, and a block.
- Stephens was all over the stat sheet as well, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant had 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals in another complete game.
- Honea tied her career high with 13 points against the Mustangs, going 3-5 from three-point range.
- Morrow again gave the Rambelles solid minutes off the bench, scoring eight points and dishing out a game high five assists.
- The Rambelles got scoring contributions from 11 different players and got 19 points off the bench.
- The Blue and Gold dominated the glass, outrebounding the Mustangs 45-33 in the contest, hauling in 18 offensive boards.
- The Rambelles forced Midwestern State into 23 turnovers, the second most force on the season.
- The victory brings the Rambelles winning streak to eight and improves their home record to now 7-0.
