Portales, New Mexico – The Angelo State men's basketball team dropped their first game on Saturday evening at the South Central Region Crossover, falling 68-65 to New Mexico Highlands.
Despite holding a 34-30 halftime lead, the Cowboys outscored the Rams 38-31 in the second half, as the Rams were held to 32 percent shooting after halftime and 25 percent shooting from deep.
Shemar Smith led all players with 18 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field; the Oklahoman converted seven of his eight attempts from the free-throw line. Smith and
Trey Farrer led the Rams with eight rebounds apiece.
Defensively, Farrer led the Rams with a pair of blocks and two steals.
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson had 15 points and led the Rams with three assists.
Kevon Godwin had 11 points, making three of his six attempts from three, and
Willie Guy added eight points.
The Rams are now 1-1 on the season; they are back in action on November 21
st in Magnolia, Arkansas, to take on reigning GAC champions Southern Arkansas.
