Magnolia, Ark. – The Angelo State men's basketball team completed a herculean comeback in the second half of their contest against Southern Arkansas on Tuesday evening inside the W. T. Watson Center. Trailing as much as 19 points early in the second half, the Rams outscored the Muleriders 46-24 from the 19:14 point onward after the intermission.
The Rams never held the lead in regulation until the final buzzer, when senior point guard
Willie Guy pulled up from beyond the three-point line and capped off the Rams' comeback with a rainbow three.
The Muleriders led from the jump, scoring the first nine points of the contest, and continued building their lead, entering the intermission with a 17-point lead over the Rams.
The Rams got off to a slow start, only shooting 26.1 percent from the field and missing on all eight attempts from deep before the break.
The second half saw the teams reverse roles as the Rams shot 53.3 percent from the field in the second half and 42.9 percent from three.
Kevon Godwin led all players with 21 points on 8-of-22 shooting from the field, making three three-pointers.
Guy went 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-7 from three, none more important than his final make from deep. Guy also recorded a team-high three assists and four steals.
Trey Farrer recorded his first double-double as a Ram with ten points and ten rebounds.
Carvell Teasett scored ten points, a season-high, and was perfect from the free-throw line in four attempts.
The Rams are now 2-1 on the season; they are back in action on Saturday for their home opener against Arlington Baptist.
