No. 18 Rambelles Shut Out Dustdevils

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team closed the 2023 George and Ola McCorkle Challenge presented by Bahlman Cleaners with a 3-0 win over Texas A&M International on Sunday afternoon.

The win saw the Rambelles play exceptional defense while the pitching duo of Torrey Hogan and Cheyenne Floyd scattered only five hits against the Dustdevils; the shutout win is the first of the season for the Rambelles.

Ashlyn Lerma started the Rambelles off with a bunt single and a stolen base before advancing to third on a Layni Tanner bunt single.

Lerma would tab the first run on a double steal, while Tanner would score later in the inning on a Lindsey Evans RBI single.

It was the same trio for the Rambelles that scored the final run in the fifth inning, with Lerma drawing a walk and stealing second before advancing on a Tanner infield single. Tanner herself would swipe second before Lerma would score on another RBI single by Evans.

Lerma went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk and three stolen bases, while Tanner and Evans each went 2-of-3 from the dish.

Paxton Scheurer went 3-for-3 with a pair of singles and a double, while Ashton Dirner recorded the other hit for Rambelles.

Hogan pitched the first four innings, only allowing three hits while striking out three en route to her third win. Floyd threw the final three innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five Dustdevils, as she recorded her first save in an ASU uniform. The duo did not allow a walk, the first time the Rambelles have done so this season.

The Rambelles are now 8-3 on the season; they will continue their homestand next weekend when they host West Texas A&M to open conference play.
