SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team dropped their Lone Star Conference opener on Friday night at Mayer Field, 7-3, to rivals West Texas A&M.
Lady Buffs starting pitcher Kyra Lair stifled the Rambelle offense, only conceding a pair of hits.
Ashlyn Lerma started the scoring in the first inning, drawing a four-pitch walk before stealing second base, advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scoring on a
Paxton Scheurer sacrifice fly.
The Lady Buffs equaled the score in the third inning before putting up a four-spot in the fourth.
A two-run home run saw the visitors extend their lead in the final frame; the Rambelles responded with a
Maleya Burns walk to set up
Keilei Garcia's fifth home run of the season, which barely stayed fair down the right-field line.
Genesis Armendariz received her first loss of the season, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in seven innings.
The Rambelles are 8-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play; they close their weekend out tomorrow with a doubleheader against the Lady Buffs.
