SAN ANGELO – In their first home game in nearly three long weeks, the Angelo State men's basketball team extended their winning streak on their home floor with a 71-57 win over DBU on Thursday night inside Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The win sees the Rams improve to 21-5 on the season as they picked up their program-record 17
th win in LSC play; the Rams also improve to 11-0 on their home court this season.
The win is also the Rams' first-ever win over DBU, with the Patriots having claimed the previous four meetings.
The Rams shot 44.8 percent from the field in the first half but only 25 percent from three before the intermission.
With only a one-point lead at the break, the Patriots opened the second-half scoring to retake the lead before an and-one from
Devaughn Thomas regifted the Rams the lead, one they would maintain for the rest of the contest.
The Rams out-rebounded the Patriots 36-30 and assisted 11 times to the visitors' five.
Kevon Godwin, Thomas, and
Steve Webb scored double figures for the Rams. Godwin and Thomas each scored 14 points, with Thomas grabbing a team-high nine rebounds as well as three steals.
Webb's 12 points came in 19 minutes of action off the bench, his third game this season reaching the 10-point mark in a game; he also added seven rebounds and three steals.
As a team, the Rams forced the Patriots into 23 turnovers, their most in conference play this season.
Willie Guy poured in nine points and five assists, while
Fredelin De La Cruz and
Barlow Alleruzzo IV scored seven each, with De La Cruz adding three steals.
The Rams close their weekend out on Saturday against UT Tyler, who are coming off a 78-66 loss to UT Permian Basin in Odessa tonight.
