SAN ANGELO, Texas – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team swept a doubleheader on Saturday against UT Permian Basin, winning 6-5 and 19-8 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the wins, the Rams improve to 10-1 overall and in the Lone Star Conference while taking a 2-1 lead in the series over the Falcons.
GAME ONE: ASU 6, UTPB 5
The Rams tallied the first run of the game in the first inning as
Jacob Guerrero reached base on a fielder's choice, bringing home
Austin Beck from third. ASU added a run in the third on another fielder's choice, this time by
Thomas Cain.
Jordan Williams expanded the lead for the Rams, hitting a three-run home run over the left field wall in the fourth before
Kamden Kelton hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 6-0.
Starting on the mound for ASU was
Kade Bragg who threw six innings of work with three hits and 10 strikeouts to go along with zero runs.
The Falcons fought back for the second game in a row, scoring five runs in the seventh to cut the lead to one run.
Scott Ellis pitched the final two outs of the game to pick up the save for the Rams.
GAME TWO: ASU 19, UTPB 8
The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two of the doubleheader, capped off by a two-RBI double.
ASU was able to cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning after Beck led off with a triple before a sac-fly by Williams and a bases-loaded walk by
Tripp Clark made it 4-2.
The Rams tied the game with two runs in the second before both teams scored in the third to make it 5-5.
Started game two for ASU was
Braxton Pearson who tossed five innings with six runs off of four hits and a strikeout. He earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Rams scored six runs in the fourth inning as Beck, Williams, and
Tayten Tredaway all hit a homer run in the inning.
ASU continued the scoring with four runs in the fifth and the sixth inning. The Rams had six players with multiple RBIs in the contest including three RBIs from Guerrero,
Weston Valasek, and Tredaway.
The Rams and Falcons will close out the series tomorrow with game four set for 1 p.m.
