SAN ANGELO, Texas – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team picked up the series win over UT Permian Basin on Sunday afternoon, winning game four in seven innings 14-4 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams improve their record in the Lone Star Conference to 11-1 overall while the Falcons fall to 4-8.
UTPB struck first in the contest, hitting a two-RBI single up the middle in the first inning for an early lead.
Jordan Williams cut the lead in half in the bottom half, hitting a solo home run over the left field wall.
The Falcons put up two more runs in the second inning, hitting a two-run shot over the center field wall to go up 4-1.
Mason Bryant started on the mound for ASU, throwing five innings with four runs off of four hits to go along with six strikeouts.
In the fifth inning, the Rams poured on the runs, scoring 10 total with RBI singles by
Austin Beck and
Thomas Cain before
Justin Harris hit a grand slam shot to left field.
ASU added three more runs in the seventh inning to close the game out early as
Kamden Kelton and Williams both hit RBI doubles.
Pitching in relief for the Rams was
Hunter Mayo who tossed two innings without a hit, striking out four batters.
The Rams will be on the road next week as they travel to UT Tyler for an important four-game conference series beginning on Friday, Feb. 24.
