LUBBOCK, Texas – The Angelo State track & field teams concluded day one of the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships, claiming two titles and a meet record at the Sports Performance Center.
The 14
th-ranked Rambelles ended the day in second place overall in the team scores with 64.5 points while the Rams currently sit third overall with 32.5 points.
The Rambelles tallied the top four scores in the pentathlon with
Maricia Spence claiming her second straight title in the event with 3,862 points. Spence collected three first-place finishes, winning the 60-meter hurdles, the high jump, and the long jump. Behind her was
Abby Zamzow in second with 3,654 points followed by
Anna Riccomagno in third (3,543), and
Allison Vaughn in fourth (3,504).
Spence won her second title of the day in the women's long jump, hitting a mark of 6.04m (19'-9.75") to finish first overall. She also earned the top time in the first round of the 60-meter hurdles after running 8.67.
Shiean Walters set a new LSC meet record in the opening round of the 400-meter run, crossing the finish line at 53.96. Behind her was
Shadae Findley with a time of 54.47 to give ASU the top two times heading into tomorrow's final.
In the women's pole vault,
Camryn Barros (3.56m | 11'-8") and
Kylyie Paden (3.46m | 11'-4.25") both made the podium, finishing second and third respectively. Fatoumata Kabo took third overall in the first round of the 200-meter dash, running a time of 24.21.
On the men's side,
Elvis Kryukov leads the heptathlon through the first four events, totaling 3,242 points while
Kyle Lumpkins sits in fourth with 2,907 points.
Jacobee Jones took silver in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 5.16m (16'-11") while Kryukov also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 7.01m (23'-0").
In the first round of the men's 800-meter run,
Oussama Elbouchayby ran a time of 1:53.16 to earn the top finish heading into the finals.
The LSC championships continue tomorrow in Lubbock with the final events of the men's heptathlon beginning at 10:30 a.m.
