TYLER, Texas – The No. 2-ranked Angelo State baseball team fell in game one of the series against UT Tyler, losing 3-2 in extras on Friday night at Irvin Field.
With the loss, the Rams move to 11-2 overall and in Lone Star Conference play while the Patriots improve to 9-4.
After six scoreless innings by both teams, the Patriots struck first in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a sac fly to center field for the first run of the game.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, throwing seven innings with eight hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters.
The Rams tied the game in their next appearance at the plate as
Kamden Kelton singled before two throwing errors by UTT brought him home. The Patriots tallied another run in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to left field.
Once again, the Rams found a response, this time scoring in the top of the ninth as
Jacob Guerrero homered to left field to tie the game.
Austin Teel tossed 3 1/3 innings for ASU, giving up only one hit with six strikeouts and no runs.
In the 13
th inning, the Patriots finally broke the tie, hitting a solo home run to left field to close out the game.
The Rams and Patriots are back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
