LUBBOCK, Texas – The Angelo State track & field teams concluded the final day of the 2023 Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships as the No. 14 Rambelles finished second overall while the Rams took third at the Sports Performance Center on Sunday.
The Belles finished with 158 total points to take second place while the Rams finished with 105.5 points in all.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team set a new NCAA Division II record as
Shiean Walters,
Zykia McDaniel,
Maricia Spence, and
Shadae Findley ran a time of 3:38.38 to claim the title, beating out the previous record of 3:39.24 set by Lincoln in 1997.
Walters also set an LSC record in the 400-meter run, crossing the finish line at 53.25 to finish first overall while Findley took second in the event at 53.67. Findley also turned in a second-place performance in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.20.
Abby Zamzow made the podium in the women's triple jump, taking third overall with a mark of 12.21m (40'-0.75"), while Spence finished second overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71.
Finishing third in the women's 200-meter dash was Fatoumata Kabo who ran a time of 24.24.
For the men,
Elvis Kryukov was his second straight title in the heptathlon, finishing with 5,450 total points, claiming victories in the long jump, and the shot put.
Taking second overall in the men's triple jump was
Joshua Body who made a mark of 14.61m (47'-11.25") while Kryukov finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.01.
Oussama Elbouchayby made the podium twice on the day, winning the 800-meter run after finishing in 1:51.04 while also taking second in the mile with a time of 4:15.10.
The Rams and Belles will continue the indoor season at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for March 10-11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
