Odessa, Texas – The Angelo State softball team claimed their first LSC series of the season, winning two of three from UT Permian Basin. The Falcons came back to win game one 4-3 before the Rambelle bats exploded for a 14-0 win over the Falcons in five innings.
Ashlyn Lerma got the Rambelles off to a hot start in game one, drawing a walk before stealing second and third base before scoring the game's first run on a wild pitch.
Keilei Garcia would draw a walk to set up
Paxton Scheurer, who homered for the sixth time this season to extend the Rambelles' lead to 3-0.
However, the Falcons would score two runs in the third and fifth inning to claim the 4-3 victory over the Rambelles.
Lerma finished game one 2-for-2 from the plate with a pair of walks and four stolen bases, while Scheurer was the only other Rambelle to record a hit, also going 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and a couple of walks.
A two-out rally for the Rambelles sparked the scoring in the first inning of game two. Walks by Scheurer and
Bailey Martinez put runners on, with both advancing on a wild pitch and later scoring on a single by
Ashton McMillan.
McMillan would score later in the inning on a Falcons error, and just like game one, the Rambelles ended the first frame with a 3-0 lead.
Lerma led off the second inning with an infield single before stealing second base.
Lindsey Evans would blast her fifth home run of the season over the center field fence to make the lead 5-0.
Martinez's infield single set up McMillan, who homered for the first time in her collegiate career to make the score 7-0.
Tatiana Trotter would drive in
Ashton Dirner to finish off the scoring for the inning, with the Rambelles holding an 8-0 lead after two innings.
Scheurer would tally her second two-run home run of the day in the third inning to make the lead 10-0.
A pitch hit Martinez, and she would eventually score on a McMillan RBI single.
McMillan led off the fifth inning with a double, scoring on a single by
Victoria Mosqueda; Mosqueda would score later in the inning on a fielder's choice.
Katie Burris would wrap up the scoring with an RBI single to bring the score to 14-0.
McMillan, a native of San Angelo, went 4-for-4 in the second game with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Genesis Armendariz picked up her sixth win of the season, only allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six Falcons.
The Rambelles are now 10-7 on the season; they are back in action on Saturday to host second-ranked UT Tyler.
